The year was 1972, I was 17 years old and was persuaded to go to a life drawing class with a bunch of friends. As it turned out, the model scheduled for the class did not show up and the teacher asked for a volunteer in the class with the incentive being a $25 modeling fee. Remember this was 1972 and twenty five bucks was a lot to a kid in those days. I naively jumped at the chance and stripped down before realizing the entire class was made up of friends (male and female) that I grew up with. Well too late now. Anyway, fast forward to present day and I am a full time artist painting nude portraits of friends and strangers alike and realized it was a bit hypocritical for me to ask my contemporary's to get naked when I had not...then I found a nearly 50 year old polaroid from that life drawing class and here I am...Myself at seventeen. Two artists with different mediums ( One Acrylic and the other Oils) and points of view. The acrylic artist begins the painting and more or less sets the theme or tone, then passes it off to the oil painter who takes over and either continues the beginning theme or transforms it into something completely different. Family? Work? Friends? We all know about gossip and during these times they gossip a lot. A great idea for white elephant gifts, stocking stuffer (for Christmas), Bachelor or Bachelorette parties.

Story behind this painting: This painting is about my breakup with my boyfriend. The character in a chair pushed into a corner looking down. He is confused and sad. I ended it because I don't have the mental energy for a relationship. It is difficult enough trying to take care of myself. I need to work on myself mentally and physically and learn how better to live with fibromyalgia before I can give the type of attention that any good relationship deserves. The donkeys represent my brothers I believe they are true jackasses in their own special ways. My relationship with both of them is strained, and not for any particular reason.
